Abstract:
Four Foot contours representing the topographic layout of Columbia County. Digital orthophotography products in Columbia County were created to provide a detailed view of land features that could be used for mapping tax parcels, road centerlines, hydrology, land use and other feature types. The orthophotography for Columbia County was captured in April 2002 as part the Land Information Department orthophotography maintenance schedule. The photography was obtained during leaf off conditions and when there is no snow or ice on the ground or lakes. Columbia County's flight height was 10,000' producing a final product scale of 1" = 1666'. The film diapositives of the aerial photography were scanned at 15 microns resulting in digital orthophotography with a 12" pixel resolution. Horizontal ground control for this project was established using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technologies, both ground control GPS and airborne GPS, to produce suitable control for an analytical aero-triangulation solution supporting four foot contour interval mapping. The Columbia County 2002 orthophotography project meets the National Horizontal Map Accuracy Standards for 1"= 200' scale mapping. All data is referenced to the Columbia County Coordinate System, North American Datum 1983(1991) and North American Vertical Datum of 1988. |

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

Contour data provides consultants, planners, resource managers and other county staff with information on the elevations and lines of equal elevation within Columbia County. The information contained in this coverage is one of Wisconsin Land Information Program's foundational elements and supports the county's goals and objectives relating to land information as well as the county's information technology vision, mission, goals, strategies and plan.

Attribute accuracy is tested by digital comparison of the source data with display of the digital data attributes and the 2002 Digital Orthophotos.
This data set is topological structured for polygons and arcs for the entire Columbia County area. The geographic data represented by this coverage is stored according to a vector based data type. With a vector data structure, geographic entities are represented as lines depicted on a 2-dimensional surface. Each line is identified by a sequence of x-y-z coordinates.
The features represented in this data set are, to the best knowledge of the Columbia County Land Information Office, representative of all the 4 foot contour interval in Columbia County. The contour line features represented in this data set are, to the best knowledge of the Columbia County Land Information Department, representative of four foot lines of equal elevation in Columbia County. The Columbia County 2002 orthophotography project meets the National Horizontal Map Accuracy Standards for 1"= 200' scale mapping.
Accuracy of this digital data is dependent upon the scale, date, and origin of the source material used to create this geographic data set.
Feature Lines and Attribute Data
The current 4 foot contour coverage that is maintained by the Columbia County Land Information Department Geospatial Technologies Section was provided to the County from Ayres Associates.
