Agenda:          The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a m by Chair Carol Ziehmke. The agenda was approved as presented.

 

Minutes:          The minutes of the August 5, 2005 meeting were approved as presented(PW/GD)

 

2006 county library budget report:  The report was presented to the Finance Committee of the Columbia County Board on September 29 by Chair Carol Ziehmke, Ken Bates and Hans Jensen. The budget was well received with a decrease of $3600 representing a minus .8%. Cross Border payments were questioned; reimbursement will only be paid to our own libraries. Automation Grants (only applies to Rio Library) for start up costs for LINK were eliminated but will be available when the Rio Library is ready to make this commitment. Ken Bates discussed the Delivery System with emphasis on its efficiency and importance to all county libraries.

Resource Library Report: Hans Jensen  Columbia County Libraries will conduct library usage statistical surveys between October 10 – 15. Statistics collected will include

·         Visits (people count)

·         Electronic Usage (number of users and computer hours logged)

·         Reference (questions or referrals requested from librarians)

 

S C L S Report: Cheryl Becker

·         Peter Hamon’s retirement party is set for January 12, 2006. (SCLS Administrative Director)

·         Kristi Williams of Dane County is WLA Trustee of the Year

·         Legislative Bills SB272 (reform), SB273 (language) and AB243 (maintenance of effort) are all in the legislative process and need our support.

·         Possibility of a rebate on gasoline tax from the state to tax exempt organizations (directly decreases delivery costs)

 

Other Items: Terms of Office.  Glen Deedon and Patricia Westbv have terms that will expire December 31, 2005. They                 have agreed to serve another term of office and their names will be submitted to the Columbia County

                                Board. Changes in Meeting Dates.  Discussion followed regarding a public hearing for the Columbia

County Long Range Plan. This must be published and held before submission to the Columbia County Board meeting in December for approval.  A motion was made, seconded and passed  to hold the next meeting at the Wyocena Public Library on December 2 and the first meeting of 2006 on Friday, February 3.(JRC/AR) Library Visits:  Portage and Wyocena Libraries visited by Carol Ziehmke, Cambria Library by Beverly Hoffmann and Rio Library by Glen Deedon.

 

Strategic Plan for Columbia County Library Board 2006  Plan reviewed, minor changes made and name changed to

                        Action Plan.  Plan was approved with changes. (BH/GD)

 

Next meeting:  will be Friday, December 2, 2005 at 9:00 a m, Wyocena Public Library.
