The geographical distinction of Portage lies in its unique location netween the Fox River, flowing north to the St. Laurence and Wisconsin River which flows south to the Mississippi. This narrow neck of land was portaged for two centuries by Native Americans, missionaries, trappers, traders, adventurers and settlers.
