Village of Friesland

Village of Friesland Logo Friesland proudly heralds its historic past. This village in the northeastern part of Columbia County was founded by immigrants who came from the province of Friesland in the Netherlands.

The settlers first called this community Randolph Center, but it was changed to Friesland in 1910 when the railroad and post office came to the village. The change was precipitated due to the the village of Randolph being just seven miles down the road.

Visitors to Friesland can stop at the historic grocery store, founded 100 years ago by Tuenis Tillema. June through August, villagers keep another tradition alive with their popular old fashioned band concerts and pie socials. The concerts are held every Tuesday, starting at 8 p.m.
