 SHELTER IN PLACE TIPS    

                                                   SHELTER IN PLACE

IN THE EVENT A CHEMICAL INCIDENT TAKES PLACE AND YOU ARE ORDERED TO SHELTER IN PLACE, PROCEED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Stay in doors
  2. Close and lock all doors & windows
  3. Shut off all air circulation systems (air conditioners, furnaces, vent fans, clothes dryers, fireplaces)
  4. Seal all cracks around doors, windows, vents, air conditioners, exhaust fans, etc. with duct tape or wet towels
  5. If explosion is possible, cover windows by pulling shades, curtains, or drapes
  6. If fumes have penetrated, breathing through a wet cloth over nose and mouth may be useful for some chemicals (listen for instructions)
  7. Stay in room nearest center of building
  8. Keep telephone, radio (tuned to local station), and TV in room for future instructions

NOTE: These items are used for GENERAL PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. In the event of a real incident the Incident Commander would give future instructions.
