WHO NEEDS FLUORIDE SUPPLEMENTS? (BROCHURE)

Children age 6 months through 15 years old, drinking fluoride deficient well water, or living in Cambria, Fall River, Friesland, Randolph, Wyocena & Harmony Grove should be given daily fluoride supplements.

Columbia County Division of Health dispenses fluoride supplements at no cost. A well water test must be done to check the fluoride level in the water unless living in Cambria, Fall River, Friesland, Randolph, Wyocena, or Harmony Grove.  The well water test kit may be obtained free of charge from the Columbia County Division of Health.  You will need to pay for postage.

If you have never had your water tested for fluoride or have moved since last obtaining fluoride, please pick up a water test kit from the Columbia County Division of Health. The cost of the test is free, however there is a charge for postage. You will be notified by mail of your water results only if your fluoride level is abnormally high.

WARNING

Store fluoride out of child's reach

If you move to a city or town with fluoride in the water, STOP giving fluoride drops or tablets to your children.

BENEFITS OF FLUORIDE

Fluoride prevents tooth decay and improves oral health for a lifetime. Products containing fluoride (toothpaste, mouthwash, etc) stop the growth of newly formed cavities and can prevent the formation of cavities on the roots of teeth while fluoride supplements help protect the teeth from the inside as the teeth grow and develop.

SAFETY OF FLUORIDATION

Since the 1930's, hundreds of carefully conducted scientific studies have shown that water fluoridation is safe and effective in preventing tooth decay.  Fluoridation of community water supplies is a valuable public health measure.
