The Land Information Department functions as the receiving office of the County Surveyor’s records related to land information and is responsible for the indexing of surveys and corner recordation information of the County Surveyor and to maintain the Courthouse survey records. In addition to corner monuments, all surveys that are done in Columbia County, whether they are a plat of survey, subdivision survey, certified survey, condominium plat, or mortgage inspection, are indexed in the LID.
The second mission is to establish and maintain global positioning system survey markers, maintain existing National Geodetic and U.S. Geological Survey markers, survey county lands as needed, support various county departments with survey services as needed, check plats and certified survey maps, and answer survey questions from the public at large to the extent of our capabilities. The County Surveyor does not do private property surveys for landowners. Private registered land surveyors must do these surveys.
