Deputy Sheriff - $100 MONTHLY RETENTION PAY

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting to fill current Deputy Sheriff vacancies.  This is a patrol deputy position.  Patrol deputies will be issued a take home squad that is assigned to them.  Deputies are eligible for specialized teams like SWAT, Dive, Boat Patrol, Drug Unit, Honor Guard, K-9, Hostage Negotiation, Critical Incident Debriefing, Accident Reconstruction, Crime Scene Evidence Tech, and Drone Unit.

Qualifications: Minimum two-year associate degree or 60 credits from an accredited Technical College, College or University; a High School diploma or its equivalent; and a minimum of 21 years of age.  State Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified or Certifiable is preferred.

Requirements: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record. Be able to pass an extensive and thorough background check including drug screening.  Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes holidays, weekends, and nights. Must have uncompromised integrity with high moral standards.

 

  • The 2023 pay range is from $28.740 - $37.702 per hour with a starting pay range between $28.740 - $32.517 per hour depending on law enforcement experience and certifications as Columbia County has a lateral transfer program.
  • Patrol Deputies work a 12-hour shift and will be scheduled off every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Excellent benefit package with health, dental and eye insurance.
  • Deputies will earn 88 hours of Holidays, 96 hours of sick time, and an excellent vacation package per year.
  • Patrol Deputies will receive an extra $2.00 per hour for weekend hours worked.
  • Upon Retirement, Deputies will receive $6,000 a year for health insurance.
  • Columbia County offers a temporary retention payment of $100 per month.
  • Columbia County contributes $35 each pay period into a separate Healthcare Reimbursement Account ("HRA") to be used upon retirement for health insurance costs.
  • All uniforms and equipment issued upon start date with a yearly uniform allowance after the first year.

Jail Deputy - $100 MONTHLY RETENTION PAY

 

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting to fill current vacancies for a Jail Deputy. Schedule is 12-hour shifts with every other 3-day weekend off. Qualifications:  High School Diploma or equivalent; excellent moral character; dependable; and ability to handle and control inmates. Selection process includes oral interviews, background investigation, medical & psychological evaluations, drug and alcohol screenings, county residency not required.  Hire rate $23.932-$27.345 per hour, based on experience and certification. Columbia County also offers the following incentives:


  •  Additional Two Dollars ($2) per hour weekend pay.
  • Columbia County also offers a temporary retention payment of $100 per month.
  • Jail staff who complete five (5) years of service in the Jail shall receive a one-time payment of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000).
  • Jail staff who retire from the County at age fifty-five (55) or above with at least twenty-five (25) years of continuous service with the Sheriff’s Office, shall receive Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) into a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) per year, through the age of sixty-five (65).

These part-time positions will work an average of 18 hours per week. The work days will vary during the week and will consist of day shift hours. Ferry Operator - $100 Monthly Retention Pay

Columbia County Highway & Transportation is recruiting for Ferry Operator to operate the Ferry (Col-Sac III) across the Wisconsin River from the Town of West Point (“Okee” on Columbia County side) to the Village of Merrimac (Sauk County side) during the operational season (typically March to December) and ferry maintenance activities during the winter shutdown period.  Full time position 40 hours per week. Ferry Operators work twelve (12) hours per day, three (3) days on and three (3) days off throughout the ferry season.  This position will be assigned the PM shift working 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.  After the ferry season, this employee is assigned to other duties as needed (including winter snow plowing) and paid the Ferry Operator classification.  Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent + 2 years’ experience/training in some type of construction field. ADRC Driver part time

Part-time position with Columbia County Health & Human Services.  The Aging & Disability Resource Center is hiring drivers interested in a rewarding way to serve the community  to transport senior citizens and individuals with disabilities to medical appointments and nutrition sites, deliver meals and other trips as necessary.  HIRE RATE: $10.00 per hour.  Requires a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and clean driving record, ability to maintain accurate records be courteous, pleasant and helpful to people who are elderly or disabled.  Background check is required and will be completed by employer.  Required completion of Columbia County application which can be obtained through the county website: www.co.columbia.wi.us or call (608)742-9667 or pick up an application from Human Resources at 112 East Edgewater Street in Portage.  Position will remain open until filled.  AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
