Land Sales

The County Treasurer's Office conducts a sale of tax delinquent foreclosure properties. Land sales are published in the Portage Daily Register and on the County Treasurer's website.

The foreclosure properties are sold by blind-sealed bid to the highest bidder, however the County reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids.  Please note that bids will not be accepted from persons that currently owe delinquent property taxes to Columbia County. All bids must be submitted with a County Bid form in a sealed envelope, clearly marked "Land Sale Bid" with the parcel number listed on the outside of the envelope. The bid must be delivered to the Columbia County Treasurer's Office on or before the date designated in the Notice of Sale. Bids must be at least the amount of the appraisal for Minimum Bid of the parcel, which is also listed in the Land Sale Notice. A certified check, cashier's check, money order or cash equal to ten (10%) percent of the amount of the bid, must accompany the bid as earnest money and will be applied to the purchase price offered by the successful bidder. In the case of rejected bids, the earnest money will be returned to the bidder within 15 days of the bid opening. The successful bidder must make full payment of the balance of the purchase price to the Columbia County Treasurer's Office within thirty (30) days from the date of the Notice of Acceptance sent by the County. After receiving full payment of the balance of the bid, the County will issue a quitclaim deed to the successful bidder. If the successful bidder fails to pay the balance of the purchase price it will result in forfeiture of the earnest money to Columbia County.
