Running for Office

Columbia County is represented by twenty-eight (28) County Supervisors.  County Supervisors are elected in even numbered years and serve a 2 year term. From the Board, a County Board Chairman is elected. The Chairman of Columbia County serves on a part-time basis.

General powers of the County Board are provided under Wis. Stats. 59.07. This statute authorizes numerous responsibilities. The Board's powers are exercised through the resolutions and ordinances it adopts.

County Supervisors are appointed, by the County Board Chairman, to serve as members of committees and commissions for specific programs and for departments of county government.

Primary functions include adoption of the County budget, oversight of County facilities, adoption of County ordinances/resolutions pertaining to County affairs, adoption of policies governing administration of the County and appointment of various County officials, board and commissions.
