Did you know that 1 in 3 families in the US cannot afford diapers? It’s a shocking statistic that highlights a difficult reality for so many parents right here in Columbia County. Babies require up to 12 diapers a day, which adds up to $70-80 per month per child. Diapers are not covered by most federally funded public assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC because they are not food items.

Columbia County Public Health offers a community diaper closet and an annual diaper drive to ensure diapers and wipes can be given to community members in need. Public Health has created a goal to collect diapers and wipes to help keep babies in our community clean, dry, and healthy by offering this support to families facing diaper insecurity. 

The diaper closet can be used by families within Columbia County to recive 1 pack of diapers and wipes per child monthly. Individuals may stop in at Health and Human Services Monday- Friday 8:00-4:30. If you have questions or transportation concerns please reach out to us at 608-742-9227 option 6.

Every Septemper, Columbia County Public Health holds and annual diaper drive. Our diaper closet is supported 100% by donations from our community. Check back in September of each year to learn more about our annual diaper drive. Across the country, countless families are struggling to meet even the most basic hygiene needs. While food pantries play a vital role, they rarely stock essentials like soap, deodorant, toothpaste, or feminine hygiene products—items for which no government assistance exists. As a result, one in three low‑income families struggle to afford basic household necessities, and nearly three in four have had to cut back on food simply to purchase hygiene products.

These difficult choices can lead to children attending school without clean clothes, adults missing work, and individuals facing stigma that harms their confidence and opportunities. Our hygiene closet and hygiene drive were created to remove these barriers, ensuring that community members can stay healthy, feel confident, and fully participate in school and work. By supporting this effort, you’re helping lift obstacles that stand between individuals and the stability, dignity, and opportunity they deserve.

Our hygiene closet is avaible to anyone who lives in Columbia County in need, it can be utilized monthly to get needed supplies. 

Our hygiene closet is 100% supported by donations from our community. We hold an annual hygiene drive every April, check back in April to learn more.
