2025 NMFE Training & Re-Certification Schedule

2025 Nutrient Management Farmer Education Training Schedule

UW-Madison Extension Nutrient Pest Management team (UWEX-NPM), Columbia County LWCD, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) are partnering to offer NMFE training for understanding and writing a Nutrient Management Plan for your farm. Whether you are a first-time plan writer or attending for your re-certification, by attending this training and finalizing your Nutrient Management Plan you will meet the requirements for programs such as the Farmland Preservation Program and Cover Crop Cost-Sharing opportunities! If you are due for your 4-year re-certification, if you do not re-certify you may risk losing your eligibility for program incentives. To be certified by DATCP to write your own NMP, you are required to attend the educational training at least once every 4 years.

Please ensure you bring all the materials outlined below.

  • Numbered field maps indicating acerage.
  • Soil tests (no older than 4 years old) uploaded into SnapPlus or stored on a USB in Excel format, along with a map showing soil sample collection.
  • Livestock inventory
    • Count of each species their type and size classification based on weight.
  • Manure
    • Storage capacity
    • Application rates per acre
  • Updated crop rotation plan (this is probably most important down the road for plan development fine-tuning)
