Columbia County Land and Water Conservation Department promotes Youth Education in our State by hosting an annual Conservation Awareness Poster Contest and an annual Conservation Speech Contest. Our county also hosts the regional contests as well, consisting of 8 other counties. Any student from any school within Columbia County or youth group, or after school program may participate in either contest. There are deadlines and criteria for both contests that you will need information on.
Conservation Speech Contest – The Conservation Speech Contest aims to promote the conservation of natural resources and the protection or enhancement of environmental quality. Emphasis should be placed on the subject as it relates to your locality or to Wisconsin. There are 3 Contest Divisions:
- Elementary Division – Grades 5-6
- Junior Division – Grades 7-8
- Senior Division – Grades 9-12
Conservation Awareness Poster Contest – The Conservation Awareness Poster Contest is open to K-12 grade students, the theme is set at national level and changes each year. All posters are evaluated on the following criteria:
- Conservation Message
- Visual effectiveness
- Universal appeal
- Individual artwork
- Poster sizes have to be 14”X22” or 12”x18” only
Entries for Both Contests MUST start at the county level. There will be a regional contest and State contest following the county contests if you should advance. Please contact our office to obtain all forms and information you will need to participate. We also offer many great door prizes for winners and participants in both contests.
